Study Finds Drinking Tequila Can Help You Lose Weight

Drinking may be bad for your liver and your health, especially when done inmoderation. But if that drink is tequila, then you might be doing yourself a great favor.

Research findings have found out that tequila can help you lose weight. This is great news for tequila lovers everywhere.

The fact that tequila can aid your weight loss efforts obviously means you should not feel too guilty for going on a drinking spree over the weekend.

The American Chemical Society did the study, and their goal was to see what tequila did to a person’s blood glucose levels.

At the end of the study, they came to one intriguing conclusion – that tequila can lower blood sugar.

And why is that? It is all due to the special type of sugar this famous drink contains, known as "agavins".

The sugar found in tequila is the good kind, not the terrible kind every health expert out there says you should avoid at all costs.

By now, many of us are well aware of the ills of sugar. For instance, it can cause negative side effects such as sluggishness, bad teeth and weight gain. Sugar is also implicated in common and dangerous chronic health conditions such as diabetes and obesity.

But these negative effects are not to be experienced after consuming the sugar found in tequila.

The drink comes from the agave plant, and the sugar in it is natural and safe.

The study was conducted on two groups of mice. Both groups were treated to regular mouse food, but there was a twist. In one group plain water was offered, but in the other, water containing agavins was provided.

At the end of the study, the mice that had water containing the compounds found in tequila ended up having lower blood sugar levels than their counterparts. These mice ate less as well, which might have something to do with the fact that the mice ended up making more of a hormone known as GLP-1.

This hormone makes the stomach feel fuller for much longer, and it results in insulin production. This combination of factors is great for weight loss, and for people dealing with type 2 diabetes as well.

But there are some things you need to learn about tequila and weight loss if you are to enjoy the newly discovered weight loss benefits it offers.

First of all, moderation is key. Don’t go all out and chug as much of this drink as possible to amplify the weight loss benefits. A couple of shots is what you need, but you can still use lemon and salt as usual.

Under these drinking conditions, you will be in a position to enjoy other documented benefits of tequila as well. For instance, the drink has been shown to promote healthier digestion, and the probiotics in this drink can give your digestive health a boost.

Also, in the 1930s, tequila was prescribed by Mexican doctors as a way to treat common cold.

So, the next time you are pondering what to do about your excess weight, consider doing it over some tequila shots. By so doing, you will already have made a step in the right direction.
